On Saturday, 16 November 2024, the working group Koloniale Kontinuitäten Oldenburg invites you to a music and dance performance at the Cine k at 6 pm.
The event ‘Smells of Colonialism - olfactory art’ sheds light on the long-standing link between racism and colonialism in relation to smells and flavours. The assertion that body odour and skin colour are closely linked persists to this day. The performance deals with the ongoing discrimination and conflicts that people experience due to ‘unpleasant’ or ‘too intense’ odours.
At the same time, different ritual and spiritual meanings and healing powers of odours from cultural practices are addressed, as well as racism. Artist Sandra Chatterjee and two colleagues will be guests at the event.
The event is part of the ‘Colonial Continuities’ series, which was initiated by the working group of the same name. Cooperation partner is the action alliance ‘Oldenburg handelt fair’.
