Rev. Dr. Bridget Ben-Naimah, Vice-Chair of the Bremen Mission and pastor of the EPCG, reports on the change of leadership at Trinity Theological Seminary. We publish her report in full.
Rev. Prof. Frederick Mawusi Amevenku has officially ended his service as President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, effective 1 September 2026, following his recent election as the 15th Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) at the 12th General Assembly of the Church.
Prof. Amevenku's departure marks an interlude in his long and distinguished relationship with the Seminary that spans several years. As graduate of the Seminary himself, he joined the faculty in 2011 and progressively rose through the ranks before being appointed President in August 2024.
Prior to his appointment as President, he served the Seminary in several important capacities, including Assistant to the Academic Dean, Faculty Secretary, warden of EP Church students and Director of Graduate Studies. These roles provided him with extensive experience in academic administration, theological education and ministerial formation, which subsequently informed his leadership of the institution.
Prof. Amevenku's academic and research interests are principally in New Testament Studies and Biblical Hermeneutics. Over the years, he has taught a wide range of courses, including the Gospels, Pauline Studies, Soteriology, Eschatology, Biblical Hermeneutics, Biblical Greek, Church Doctrines and Mother-Tongue Theology, among others. His contribution to theological education has therefore extended beyond administration to the formation and preparation of generations of students for Christian ministry.
As he transitions from the Seminary to his new ecclesiastical responsibility, Rev. Prof. Amevenku expresses his profound appreciation to the Council, faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends and partners of the Seminary, as well as his family and all those who supported him throughout his years of service. He is deeply grateful for their cooperation, encouragement, friendship and prayers.
The Seminary will now continue its work under the leadership of an Acting President as it navigates this period of transition.
He wishes the Acting President and the entire Trinity Theological Seminary community God's guidance, strength and wisdom as they continue the important task of training competent, theologically grounded and spiritually mature ministers for the Church in Ghana and beyond.
As Prof. Amevenku prepares to assume the enormous responsibility of serving as Moderator of the General Assembly, he humbly solicits the continued prayers and support of the Church, the Seminary community, colleagues, friends and well-wishers. God grant him wisdom, strength, humility, good health and grace as he responds to this new call to service. May God also continue to bless Trinity Theological Seminary, its leadership, faculty, staff and students, and strengthen its enduring mission of training and equipping ministers for faithful service to the Church and the wider Christian community.
