“Clothes Make the Man”

Lippe Ghana and Togo Days

From May 22 to May 24, 2025, the Lippe Ghana and Togo Days will take place in Detmold for the fourth time.

This event brings together interested individuals and, alongside essential exchanges, there are always thematic public events held at the Christuskirche in Detmold. The theme “Clothes Make the Man” encourages reflection on the consequences of exporting second-hand clothing to Ghana and Togo, but also explores intercultural fashion. What happens when a seamstress from Ghana sits down at a sewing machine in Germany?

The Lippe Regional Church and several congregations maintain diverse relationships with Ghana and Togo. The Protestant Reformed Church Congregation of Detmold-West has had a connection with a congregation in Accra/Ghana for several years.

The Ghana and Togo Days are supported by Bread for the World, the Catholic Fund, Engagement Global, the Lippe Regional Church, and the Bremen Mission.

The Program:
Thu., 22.05., 6:30 PM – “Recycling and Upcycling of Clothing in Ghana”, lecture with Bismark Osiakwa, Accra
Fri., 23.05., 6:30 PM – “Clothes Make the Man” – German-Ghanaian fashion show; food and drink with Melody Ampeh, Nkwanta/Detmold
Sat., 24.05., 6:30 PM – “Mama Afrika” – West African percussion and dance concert

All events will take place at Christuskirche Detmold, Bismarckstr. 16, 32756 Detmold.
