Education in Ghana Young girls often face problems at school when they have their period. Marian Akua Adzroe, who is responsible for the Evangelical Presbyterian Schools in Ghana, wants to counteract this. In the EP Church schools that she looks after, education about the female cycle is therefore now part of her responsibilities. Studies show that girls, who cannot afford the necessary sanitary items miss up to 50 days a year, which leads to poorer grades and frustration. Some leave school without any qualifications, which can lead to unemployment and early marriage. Ms Adzroe therefore organises information events for girls, their parents, teachers and schools.
