Project of the Month
Church Music in Togo Music plays an important role in many churches, including the Église Évangélique Presbytérienne du Togo (EEPT). Koffi Issaka Agbo, a pastor and music enthusiast, combines his passions for music, teaching, and theology as the EEPT’s music and brass coordinator since October 2023. He leads workshops with choirs and brass groups across Togo, helping participants improve their skills while also including Bible study and small theater performances. The church’s ensembles perform a mix of styles, including chorales, classical music, modern songs, and Highlife—a blend of West African rhythms, jazz, and swing—often accompanied by drums, guitar, and keyboard. Musicians are organized into three age groups, from youth to adults, and the music is highly valued nationwide, with choirs and brass groups often invited to workshops or official events. Agbo hopes to establish a music school and a recording studio for EEPT members and to offer scholarships for music students. Through his work, the EEPT continues to strengthen the quality and reach of church music in Togo, inspiring communities and nurturing musical talent across generations.
