Dear friends of the North German Mission,today you are receiving the April 2026 issue of the Newsletter, which will be published by the North German Mission (NM). This issue includes information to a workshop organized by the NM for church congregations interested in addressing the issue of heat in cities, about a new educational program offered by the Evangelical Educational Association of Bremen and a sustainable cooking evening in Bremen, a report on the new clinic in Alavanyo, Ghana, and an article by our South-North volunteer Colette Boateng about the Oldenburg Fair Trade Shop. You will also find an obituary for Prof. Gilbert Ansre, EPCG. Project of the Month
Spiritual Healing Center in Ghana Many people seek spiritual support and guidance from their church, and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Ghana has created a special place to meet these needs. In 2003, the church decided to establish the National Spiritual Resource and Healing Centre outside Ho. The area was planted with neem trees to keep mosquitoes away, but during heavy rains a more solid shelter is needed. Since 2022, Pastor Benony Agbeti-Hlomatsi has led the centre together with two deacons. He also oversees three congregations and hosts church radio programs, allowing him to reach people in different ways. The centre is open daily from 9 a.m., as demand has grown significantly. Between 60 and 150 people come each day, seeking help with grief, family problems, faith questions, or even mental health challenges—especially since affordable counseling services are lacking in Ghana. The team takes time for personal conversations, meditation, music, dance, extended prayer, and, if desired, anointing with oil and blessing. Those with medical problems are referred to health facilities. While the centre already provides valuable support, it still needs reliable access to drinking water and additional washrooms.
