The Bremen Mission is offering free workshops for Bremen congregations in the summer of 2026 on the theme of heat in cities.

Cities are getting hotter. Sealed surfaces, a lack of greenery and dense development intensify the heat in urban spaces far beyond natural levels — and not everyone is affected equally.

In the summer of 2026, free workshops will be held in Bremen congregations to explore precisely these questions: How is climate change transforming urban life? Which neighbourhoods and population groups are particularly affected? And what can we all do to make our cities more resilient to heat? Over approximately three hours, groups of 12 to 30 children and young people aged 10 and above will explore these topics together — older congregation members are also warmly welcome.

What emerges goes beyond the workshops themselves: they also serve to document outcomes that will feed into a travelling exhibition on the theme of heat in cities. This will be shown in various Bremen congregations from 2027 onwards. The exhibition's horizons do not end in Bremen, however: photographs, videos and information will show how heat stress shapes Ghana's cities and what experiences are being gathered there.
