As part of the Bremen Water Weeks, the Bremen Mission warmly invites you to visit its interactive stand — on 22nd August and 4th September in Bremen. We will show how contaminated water can be turned into safe drinking water — without any electricity or chemicals whatsoever.

The Bremen Water Weeks make water tangible as a foundation of life, an environmental resource and a global challenge. Numerous associations, educational institutions and research bodies invite visitors to engage with drinking water, climate change, water protection and global water justice through talks, hands-on activities and information stands.

At the Bremen Mission's stand, the focus is on the scientifically proven SODIS method (Solar Water Disinfection), which is used by our member church in Ghana to disinfect water: clear water is filled into transparent PET bottles and left in direct sunlight for at least six hours. UV-A radiation and heat reduce many disease-causing pathogens. In this way, safe drinking water can be produced using simple means, even under difficult conditions.

Children and adults alike can get hands-on at our stand. At various stations, visitors can try out which water is suitable for SODIS and what materials are needed for it. Photographs from Ghana illustrate how the method is applied in everyday life. And with special beads that change colour under UV light, we make the effect of solar radiation visible.
