The 199th General Assembly of the Bremen Mission took place on June 18 and 19, 2025, in Kpalimé, Togo. Secretary General Heike Jakubeit was confirmed in office. A central topic of discussion was the consideration of a new name for the Bremen Mission.

The current term of the 57-year-old Heike Jakubeit is set to end this year, making new elections necessary. The pastor from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg was re-elected by a large majority for another six-year term.

Finances were also on the agenda. The financial statement for 2023/24 was approved, as was the 2026/27 budget, with a total annual volume of 1.4 million euros.

The General Assembly began with a pre-conference for women. Afiwa Allahare from Togo—a lawyer with many years of experience at the All Africa Conference of Churches—gave a talk on “The Emotional Wounds of Women.” The session addressed issues such as emotional hurt, humiliation, and violence experienced by women around the world. The women’s pre-conference issued an appeal to the delegates of the General Assembly to advocate within their churches for the establishment of counseling centers that offer concrete support services for affected women.

Numerous representatives of the Bremen Mission’s young adults network were also invited to attend.
