Ishmael Dotse, Ghanaian volunteer in the office of Bremen Mission, took part in a seminar in March. Here you can read his impressions.

Gradually the end of my volunteerism service is fast approaching. Most well meaning individuals, who I come in contact with ask this one relevant question: what are you going to do when you travel back to Ghana? 

As part of our volunteerism service, we had a seminar which was centered on project management and start-ups. Apparently, this initiative was to prepare our minds to come up sustainable projects or start-ups that would impact our communities positively upon our return home. The Project Officer of Bremen Mission, Mrs Sarah Mumo introduced us to parameters that an organization like Bremen Mission will consider, before granting funds to support a project or start-up initiative. During the session, we were asked to break into groups and suggest projects or start-ups that will yield social, environmental and economical benefits. My group settled on a sustainable restaurant start-up initiative, of which when realized, will help achieve Sustainable Development Goals 1 (No poverty), 2 (no hunger), 3 (good health and well-being), 6 (clean water and sanitation) and 8 (decent work and economic growth).

I found the seminar very informative because, it provided us with ideas and knowledge on what to do after our volunteerism service. As it stands now, myself and my colleagues are very optimistic about the future. We are looking forward to return to our home countries with sustainable start-up initiatives that would boost our progress in the field of development.
