Ghana’s President Mahama aims to tackle the ongoing flooding issues in the capital, Accra, with a newly established Anti-Flood Task Force.

The five-member team, which includes Minister for Water Resources, Works, and Housing Kenneth Adjei and National Security Coordinator Teddy Addi, has already begun its work.

During a reconnaissance flight over flood-prone areas, data was collected to guide future flood protection strategies. Special attention was given to the fishing port of Tema and the neighborhoods of Sakumono and Weija.

Brigadier General Richard Kinney, commander of the 48th Engineer Regiment, partly blamed residents for the flooding issues, pointing out unauthorized construction in risk zones and blocked waterways. He emphasized the need for stricter measures to prevent such developments in the future. Additionally, large drainage channels will soon be dredged, with these operations being carried out by army engineers in close coordination with local authorities.
