According to the coalition agreement, the German federal government intends to abolish the existing German Supply Chain Act and replace it with a new law.

This is intended to transpose the already adopted European Supply Chain Directive (CSDDD) into national law; at the same time, the government aims to “de-bureaucratize” the EU directive. The civil society alliance Initiative Lieferkettengesetz has responded with protest and, for this reason, launched the petition “No Profits Without Conscience – Protect Human Rights and the Environment!”

As a coalition of over 90 organizations—including human rights groups, environmental associations, trade unions, as well as church and development organizations—the initiative is appealing to the Federal Chancellor to preserve the German Supply Chain Act and advocate for an effective implementation of the EU Supply Chain Directive. Both frameworks represent major achievements in recent years for human rights as well as climate and environmental protection.
