Exciting reports, touching stories: radio stories are like cinema for the ears. On the first Wednesday of every month, a radio feature is presented in Bremen - admission free. Listening is a shared experience and afterwards you can talk to the journalists behind the radio stories. On Wednesday, 4 September at 7.30 pm in the Altes Fundamt, the topic will be female circumcision.
‘Perle - Der Weg zurück zur körperlichen Unversehrtheit’ by Yasmina Hamlawi, Südwestrundfunk, 2023. Speakers: Sophia Platz, Janna Horstmann, Catharina Kottmeier, Stefan Roschy. Director: German version: Annika Erichsen. ‘Perle’ was awarded Best Feature in Europe at the Prix Europa 2023 - and received the Civis Media Prize for Integration 2024.
About the feature: Fos has long believed that all women's genitals are the same: mutilated and sewn shut. Because in Somalia, where she was born, that was the case. Her life was determined by the village community, her father and later her husband. But Fos has managed to escape this fate. Today she lives in Belgium, where she has undergone an operation to reconstruct the part of her body that she calls her pearl: her clitoris.
