As part of the exhibition “Solidarity in (Post-)Colonial Spaces,” several accompanying events are being offered. We would like to draw particular attention to two of them:

On Friday, 27 March 2026 at 3:00 p.m., a guided tour through the “Africa” and “History of the Museum” sections of the Übersee-Museum Bremen will take place.
The Übersee-Museum – both its building and its collections – was established in colonial contexts and cannot be regarded as a neutral space even today. How does the museum address this colonial legacy and its lasting effects? What functions are assigned to the exhibited objects?

These questions will be explored during the approximately 90-minute tour, with particular reference to the exhibitions “Africa” and “History of the Museum.” Decolonising, postcolonial, decolonial and collaborative approaches will also be briefly introduced and reflected upon on site.
The workshop is led by Dr Aīssatou Bouba, a teacher and literary scholar. Her research and work focus on Francophone literature as well as colonialism, racism and processes of decolonisation.
Postcolonial Museum Friday, 27 March 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at the Übersee-Museum Bremen, Bahnhofsplatz 13, 28195 Bremen. The event will last approximately 90 minutes. The building and all rooms are accessible without barriers. The regular museum admission fee applies.

On Saturday, 25 April 2026 at 12:00 noon, a performance called Poetry. Remembrance, Resistance and Repair by Prince Kamaazengi Marenga will take place at the Haus der Wissenschaft (Sandstr. 4/5, 28195 Bremen).
The event is free of charge and will be held in English.
Marenga will perform his poems as part of the exhibition, opening up a space for reflection and dialogue. Through his spoken word, he introduces a Namibian – and in particular Ovaherero – perspective on memory, commemoration and artistic engagement with German colonial crimes and the enduring continuities of colonialism within contemporary cultures of remembrance.
Marenga is an Ovaherero poet, cultural practitioner and political coordinator based in Germany. As Chief Coordinator for Ovaherero Reparatory Justice in Europe, he works with the Ovaherero Traditional Authority (UK) and the Ovaherero Genocide Foundation in Namibia to address the ongoing consequences of the Ovaherero and Nama genocide (1904–1908) and Germany’s colonial legacy.
Born into a lineage of genocide survivors, his work weaves together poetry, history and lived experience. His artistic practice positions poetry as a site of remembrance, resistance and dialogue, insisting on the presence of Ovaherero voices within German and European memory culture. He regularly performs and speaks at museums, universities, churches and cultural institutions across Germany, contributing to debates on restitution, reparations and postcolonial remembrance.
