Lippe Ghana and Togo Days

The Ghana and Togo Days are being held for the fifth time this year. They run from 9th to 17th May at the Christuskirche at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz, 32756 Detmold. Here is the programme:

9th May: The week of events begins at 6:30 p.m. with a concert by Daniel Dabi, a former Ghanaian Bremen Mission South-North volunteer from Oldenburg, and others, under the motto "Unity and Diversity". The exhibition "Giving a Face to That Which Has No Face — Hidden African Painting in Thuringia" by Attikpasso Lawson from Erfurt will also be opened. It can be seen until 25th May.

13th May: 6:30 p.m. — Film screening: "Togoland Projections". The film shows how Togolese people today engage with footage filmed during the German colonial period and what view the colonial rulers of the time had of the land and its people in Togo.

14th May: 3:00 p.m. — Town walk: "Tracing the Colonial Era in Detmold" with Dr Barbara Frey. She is a historian based in Bielefeld specialising in colonial history, teaches at the University and University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld, and leads the Bielefeld Postcolonial Working Group. Meeting point: Lippische Landesbibliothek, Hornsche Str. 41, 32756 Detmold.

15th May: 6:30 p.m. — Concert with the project choir "Efoa", followed by a shared meal with current and former Bremen Mission volunteers.

17th May: 11:00 a.m. — Lippe Convention "People of Colour": We invite people of colour to meet at the Christuskirche in Detmold. This is a first gathering of its kind and serves to explore the question: "Who are we? Where do we come from? What do we notice in our Lippe surroundings?" Further consideration will be given to whether it would be worthwhile to continue such gatherings in order to make the interests of people of colour more visible. There may also be a concluding meeting with the mayor(s) and district administrator.

The week concludes with a closing service at 3:30 p.m.
