Inflation Drops Significantly

Bank of Ghana Lowers the Policy Rate

The Central Bank’s announcement came in response to the country’s improved economic activity. Ghana’s GDP grew by 6.3% in the first half of 2025. For August 2025, overall growth of 5.1% was forecast, driven mainly by the services and agricultural sectors.

At the same time, the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) reported that inflation had fallen from 23.5% in January to 8% in October 2025. The Bank expects inflation to remain largely stable during the first half of 2026.

Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson hopes that the interest rate cut will lead to lower borrowing costs, improved access to credit, and greater room for companies to invest and create jobs.
The national currency, the Cedi, also strengthened, driven by a recorded balance of payments surplus and an increase in the country’s foreign exchange reserves. In October 2025, reserves stood at 11.4 billion USD, equivalent to 4.8 months of import coverage.
