Ghana has postponed bilateral meetings with South Africa that had been planned for next month, owing to a rise in violence against migrants in the country. The specific trigger was the death of a Ghanaian in connection with xenophobic demonstrations in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. South African authorities rejected the accusations from Ghana.

Ghanaian government spokesman Felix Kwakye Ofosu told local radio station Joy FM that the violence would likely have overshadowed the meetings in August, which were to be hosted by Ghana and jointly chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.
