In 2025, Togo is presenting its first-ever national pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. The exhibition, titled “Considering Togo’s Architectural Heritage,” is dedicated to the country’s diverse architectural history.

Curated by the architecture firm Studio NEiDA, based in Lomé and Berlin, the pavilion showcases both historical and contemporary buildings. Located at Squero Castello, the exhibition invites visitors to explore Togo’s rich architectural heritage through photographs, models, and archival materials. It emphasizes the importance of architecture for cultural identity and colonial memory.

The display features a variety of styles, ranging from traditional cave dwellings and building forms of the Afro-Brazilian diaspora to modern public buildings threatened by decay. The exhibition encourages reflection on issues of preservation and future urban development in West Africa.

The pavilion offers Afrocentric perspectives on architecture.

The Venice Architecture Biennale runs until November 23, 2025.
