Eat the Invaders

A Vegan Cookery Evening in Bremen

As part of the Bremen Water Weeks, the Bremen Mission, together with the Klimawerkstatt Bremen and the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research, warmly invites you to a special cookery evening. Under the motto "Eat the Invaders", we will prepare a vegan menu from invasive species together — and get talking about sustainable nutrition, resource use and biodiversity along the way.

Invasive species pose an ecological challenge in many places: they spread and put pressure on native ecosystems. At the same time, they can be used as valuable foodstuffs — and anyone who harvests and cooks them is, incidentally, making a small contribution to controlling them.

On this evening, participants will get to know selected invasive plant species, learn more about their origins and their impact on native ecosystems, and prepare a variety of dishes from them together. In this way, the evening combines hands-on cooking with a discussion of the potential held by foodstuffs that have so far received little attention, and what a resource-conscious diet might look like.

No prior knowledge is needed — curiosity and appetite are enough. The evening will take place in a small group of no more than 15 participants, so registration is requested.

When? On 8th September 2026, from 6:00 to approx. 9:00 p.m., at the Kochstudio seitling, Am Neuen Markt 14, 28199 Bremen

Participation is free of charge.
