Crossing the Kéran River

Progress in Togo’s Bridge Construction Programme

A project to build 21 bridges across Togo, launched in March 2024, is being implemented according to schedule.

Construction of a steel bridge over the Kéran River in the Kara Region in northern Togo is currently nearing successful completion, while work on the connecting access roads is still ongoing.
The bridges included in the project are based on a standardised steel–concrete composite structure. The model spanning the Kéran River measures 102 metres in length, 11 metres in width and 13.4 metres in height. It consists of three segments and is located on the Kantè–Nadoba road. The bridge is intended to improve connectivity between the municipalities of Kéran 1 and Kéran 3, thereby facilitating access in this part of the country.

The bridges planned under the national construction programme are distributed across all five economic regions of Togo. The programme has a total budget of 65 billion CFA francs, financed with 50 billion from France and 15 billion from the Togolese government. Once completed, the authorities state that the programme will facilitate access to essential socio-economic services for rural communities and improve the transport of agricultural products.
