The Chairperson of Amnesty International (AI), Ghana, Genevieve Partington, has reiterated her organisation's strong opposition to the new Anti-LGBTQ+ law.

Ghana's parliament this week passed prison sentences for people who advocate or participate in LGBTQ+ activities. They face between 6 months and 3 years in prison. Anyone who knowingly promotes LGBTQ+ activities is threatened with 3 to 5 years in prison.

Genevieve Partington emphasized that the Anti-LGBTQ+ law not only threatens people who are affected, but will also hinder the work of AI. She went on to explain that this law violates the International Declaration of Human Rights, which Ghana has also signed.
